A SEVENTY-FOUR-year-old Venezuelan woman lost her life on Sunday following a boat collision in the Cuyuni River opposite Linette Shop at Eteringbang Landing. Dead is Maria Williams, of San Martin, Venezuela. The accident occurred at about 16:00 hours. Reports indicate that Maria and another woman was in a canoe paddling from San Martin Landing to Eteringbang Landing, Cuyuni Riv,er when a “Ballahoo” (another vessel), which was proceeding in the eastern direction, collided with them.

Police said that the women fell overboard, during which the propeller of the other vessel chopped Maria several times about her body; her right leg received the brunt of the injuries.
Maria was rushed to the San Martin Landing to seek medical attention in Venezuela. She succumbed to her injuries Sunday evening. The matter was reported to the police and investigations are ongoing. No one has been arrested.
