A 22-year-old driver lost his life Friday night, after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole on the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Anthony Patterdin of Eccles, East Bank Demerara. Police said the fatal accident occurred about 22:30h. Reports indicated that Patterdin was driving motorcar, PMM1003, at a fast rate of speed east along the northern side of the road, when he lost control, collided with a utility pole on the southern side of the road and ended up in a nearby trench.
Patterdin was the lone occupant of the vehicle at the time; he was trapped inside the car and paramedics had a difficult time in removing him.
He was eventually taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted a patient in a serious condition. Subsequently, about 01:30h Saturday, Patterdin succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the said institution.
His body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
