A 19-year-old mother and her partner, 33-year-old Nyron Wilson, were arrested on Friday, after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) discovered suspected narcotics in the couple’s ‘C’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown house, during a raid.
Seized were methamphetamines, amphetamines in both powdered and pill form, along with a quantity of suspected marijuana.
According to the narcotics agency, the young mother had her baby at the time of the arrest and was allowed to place the child in the care of another individual. The drugs were found in a bedroom of the house.
Last year, law enforcement officials expressed increasing worry over the growing popularity of synthetic drugs.
Over the last eight years, the amount of cocaine produced has more than quadrupled. In 2010, 35 metric tonnes passed through the region. The figure was 184 metric tonnes in 2018.
