WITH Kwebanna recording a steady decline in positive COVID-19 cases, the three-week lockdown in the Region One community which came to an end on Monday, will not be extended, said village toshao, Paul Pierre.

He further added that while the lockdown has come to an end, the Village Council is still set to maintain protective measures to prevent a second outbreak of the virus in the village.
“We are not open up as normal, there still will be monitors at the water front and we are still adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines because we don’t want a reoccurrence, we have been able to get the cases under control and we intend to keep it that way; so we are moving forward with those systems,” said Pierre.

He added that while travelling in and out of the community has been reopened, checkpoints will be re-established to ensure that persons entering the community do not have COVID-19 symptoms.

According to information reaching this publication, COVID-19 cases in the community have been reduced to just four from the 62 cases recorded in the peak of testing in the village.
With a population of just over 900 people, it was imperative that the authorities act immediately to protect the residents, since infected cases in the community had numbered more than 50. Two persons had also died.
