COVID-19 death toll moves to 126

– 19 new cases recorded

TWO more persons, who tested positive for COVID-19, have lost their lives, bringing the total number of deaths to 126, while 19 new cases from 258 tests were recorded on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The latest fatalities are a 48-year-old female identified as Bibi Khan from Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, and a 67-year man from Region One; both persons succumbed while receiving care a medical facility.

Of the 19 new cases reported, there were 11 males and eight females; these cases were recorded in Regions One (four cases), Two (seven cases), Three (one case), Four (five cases) and 10 (two cases). So far, 4,162 positive cases have been recorded in Guyana and 3,228 persons have recovered.

Nine other persons are in the ministry’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 79 persons are in institutional quarantine. A further 716 persons are isolated at home. The government has further relaxed the curfew to 22:30 hours to 04:00 hours effective November 1, until November 30, 2020 unless earlier terminated, extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Public Health after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.

As per these measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes. Physically distancing and adequate sanitisation are also important.

Persons with symptoms of COVID-19 are asked to call the COVID-19 hotline numbers 231-1166, 226-7480 or 180/181 for assistance.
