A 24-year-old porter of Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara is nursing several injuries to his head and hands after he was stabbed by a Police Constable with a bottle on Sunday.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Kester Norville was on the roadway in front of his home when he saw the cop, who was off duty at the time, slashing a friend of his to the face with a bottle at around 19:40hrs.
According to the Police, Norville said he intervened with a view of making peace among the suspect and his friend; however, the suspect became annoyed and dealt him several lashes about his head and body with the bottle.
He was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and sent away. Police said the suspect was subsequently contacted and had to be escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital due to injuries he too had received about his body.
The Constable was treated and sent away. He is currently under close arrest.
