THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF), via press release, has stated that their Communications Director, Debra Francis, is no longer under the employ of the Wayne Forde-led body in the position she was serving since 2016.
The GFF’s acting General Secretary, Ian Alves, told the media that “until further notice, please direct all media related queries to Mr. Keeran Williams.”
“We seize the opportunity via this medium to once again express our appreciation to Ms. Francis for the service she rendered to the Federation and to the football community,” Alves said.
Meanwhile, though the GFF did not give a reason for Francis’ departure, one source at the GFF said like everything else, the Federation is feeling the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, when pressed by Chronicle Sport about the GY$200M (US$1M) that the GFF should have collected this year from FIFA as part of their global COVID-19 Relief Fund to their Member Associations, the source asked that those questions by directed to president Forde since those information is above their level.
The source said that Francis, over the past year, has been working without a contract, since her contract from 2017, which expired last year, was yet to be renewed.
It was also stated by the source, that other staff members of the GFF secretariat are working on a month-to-month contract.
In yesterday’s edition of the Stabroek News, Francis was quoted as saying that in her estimation, she would’ve “served football well. I want to wish the GFF all the best. I continue to wish them well in their journey.
Francis is known for her efficiency and timeliness in handling the media.
