Cop shot in buttocks trying to disarm gunman

A POLICE constable was shot in the buttocks after attempting to seize a firearm from a resident of Meadow Brook Gardens during a confrontation in Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, on Monday evening.

The suspect who discharged five rounds is known to police and was arrested.
The injured cop, Constable Ramsingh, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted and is receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.
According to reports, around 18:40hrs, Constable Ramsingh who is stationed at the Ruimveldt Police Station and his colleague were on motorcycle patrol in the Guyhoc area when they heard a loud explosion that sounded like a gunshot behind them.

Upon closer examination, the policemen saw two men, one of whom was armed with a hand- gun, and another, arguing.
The policemen immediately turned around their motorcycles and Constable Ramsingh came off his, approached the man with the handgun and attempted to seize it when a scuffle ensued and in the process, the 27-year-old perpetrator fired several shots at the cop.

One of the shots hit the constable and with the assistance of his colleague they managed to relieve the suspect of the firearm and arrested him.
The firearm recovered from the suspect is a .32 Taurus pistol containing a magazine with four live matching rounds and a spent shell in the breech.
The other male with whom the suspect was arguing made good his escape from the scene; an investigation is in progress.
