TWO weeks after Judgah Jewan moved out of his New Road, Essequibo Coast home to take up residence in another community, the property was, early Monday morning, destroyed by a fire of unknown origin.

The forty-nine-year-old man related to the Guyana Chronicle that he and his mother, Nandaie Etwaro, lived in separate houses in the same yard. He moved out of his home, but left some of his personal belongings behind.

At around 00:01 hours on Monday, policemen were on patrol duty in the vicinity of New Road, and observed that a house was on fire. Checks revealed it was Jewan’s property.

Neighbours, who were alerted by the smoke, quickly made contact with the fire service at Anna Regina. On arrival, the firefighters, found the 15×20 wooden structure completely engulfed in flames.

Jewan estimated his loss to be approximately $350,000. Among the items destroyed were beds, electrical appliances, and clothing. The distraught man was unable to say what might have caused the fire.

Police are currently investigating.
