TRAFFIC police in G Division have confirmed that Sunday’s accident, which claimed the life of 23-year-old Khalid McNichol of Henrietta Village, Essequibo Coast, was caused by speeding.
McNichol lost control of the Toyota Axio motor car, PYY 4645, which he was driving along the Lima Public Road, Essequibo Coast and crashed into a parked lorry.

According to the police, McNichol was proceeding north along the western driving lane of the public road when he lost control, while negotiating a left bend. The vehicle ended up in the eastern driving lane and subsequently collided with motor lorry, GVV 8528, which was parked on the eastern parapet.
As a result of the collision, the motor car came to a halt and the motor lorry was shifted about 10 feet to the north. The lorry came to rest on its right side in a trench on the said side of the road. McNichol was assisted out of his vehicle by ranks of the Guyana Fire Service. He was, at the time, unconscious. He succumbed to his injures before he could have reached the Suddie Public Hospital.
His body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
He was the father of one and the son of the owner of Granville hotel.
