THE police in Region Six are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 45-year-old man whose decomposed body was discovered on Wednesday morning at Number 71 Village, East Berbice, Corentyne.

The badly decomposed body of Ramesh Dhanraj was found on the floor in his bedroom at around 08:00hrs by his two daughters who went to check on him after not hearing from him for the past week.

According to one of the dead man’s daughters, Sumintra Dhanraj, 26, she had been trying to make contact with her father for more than a week but his phone kept ringing out. As such, she decided to pay him a visit after he did not return the calls as he would usually do.

However, upon approaching the yard, she was immediately greeted by a strong stench at the locked gate.

“When we reached by the gate we get a strong scent and after we keep calling and get no answer, we ask the neighbour to go in and check… we see he running coming out and said he see he foot by the bed but it look like it swell, it look like he dead,” Dhanraj said.

Soon after the daughters’ fears that something had happened to her dad were confirmed. They asked the neighbours to alert the police who arrived shortly and they found the father of two on the floor stained with blood and next to his bed.

Neighbours recalled seeing him alive last Sunday. Based on initial investigations, there appear to be no signs of forced entry into the house.

According to the relatives, the man has a history of being a heavy drinker since the age of 17 and was suffering from hypertension. He was described as a very helpful individual who, despite his substance abuse, was very loving to his children. He leaves to mourn his two daughters.
