TOPPLING rocks allegedly killed a porknocker on Wednesday, while he was working at the edge of a hill at Whitewater Mountain, Konawaruk Backdam.
Dead is Donston John called “Rambo”, 59, of St Francis Mission, Mahaicony River.
Reports indicated that the victim and a 63-year-old porknocker of Kamarang, Region Seven, began working as punters with a three-inch pump and their detectors at the aforementioned location which is owned by a mining company.
Police said the men started to work about 10:00 hours on Wednesday and were joined by two other punters, a 52-year-old porknocker from Samantha Point, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara and a 49-year-old porknocker of Wakapow, Pomeroon.
Further, while working at the edge of a hill, several big rocks fell on the victim before the others ran for safety.
Subsequently, they returned to the scene and proceeded to dig the pit with spades and retrieved the lifeless body of the victim from a hole around 22:00hrs on Wednesday.
The police were summoned and they escorted the body to Mahdia Regional Hospital where the miner was pronounced dead.
The body is currently at Mahdia Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
