SEON Bacchus, 22, of Levi Dam, Plantation Mount Sinai, New Amsterdam, succumbed to head injuries after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding along the Stanleytown Public road, in New Amsterdam, at around 01:10hrs on Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Regional Traffic, Deputy Superintendent, Timothy Williams, confirmed Bacchus’ death. He was riding motorcycle CK 1142 at a fast rate of speed when he met his demise.
Prior to the incident, Bacchus was hanging out with friends, when he left to take “a spin”.
Moments after take off, he lost control of the bike as he was negotiating a right turn in the vicinity of Lot 58 Stanleytown.
As a result, the bike was flung on to the eastern grass parapet while Bacchus landed on the asphalt road surface before catapulting on a bridge where he received injuries mainly to the head.
The unresponsive youth was picked up by the police and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where his death was confirmed. Williams told the Guyana Chronicle that Bacchus’ helmet was not strapped at the time of the accident; however, the bike which is owned by Dorwin Yannik is lodged at Central Police Station.
The body is currently at the Arokium Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem.
Police are investigating the incident.
