RESIDENTS living in the grant, Albion, Jacklow, Lower Pomeroon, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) were on Sunday evening affected by flooding due to a breach in a drainage structure there.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that high tides breached the door of the koker, which resulted in flooding in the community. The Roberts family, including two pensioners, was among those affected, but not for long, as the Region Two administration through the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) responded promptly and sealed the breach.
Regional Executive Officer Devanand Ramdatt said machinery was mobilised on Sunday evening and a team was also dispatched on Monday to assess the situation and damage, as well as find a remedy for the situation.
Ramdatt said some of the immediate interventions that were made includes the sealing of the breach and mobilisation of materials on the site. The machinery remains in the affected area to assist in improving the drainage network system.
According to Roberts, (the only name given), his family woke up to knee-high water and most of their household items were damaged.
“I live with my family and two pensioners also; we all live here for quite some time but never experience the same. The breach along with the heavy rainfall resulted in the massive flooding,” Roberts said.
Roberts praised the regional team for their prompt action in bringing the situation under control.
