POLICE are investigating a shooting incident that involved a pork knocker and a miner at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River, on Saturday.
According to reports, Albert Nigel Benjamin, 30, called “Pluto”, a pork knocker of Blackwater Backdam was attacked by a 46-year-old miner of the said area.
According to reports reaching Guyana Chronicle, the victim and the suspect were drinking at a shop for some time, and while they were there an argument started between the two.

As a result of the argument, the suspect left the shop and went towards his home, a short distance away, and returned, shortly after, with a firearm in his hand and discharged two rounds in the direction of the shop.
The suspect then approached Benjamin and discharged another round, which struck him to his left foot, causing him to fall to the ground where he received further injuries to his face and abdomen. Benjamin was taken to the Bartica Hospital where he is a patient in a stable condition.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing. Meanwhile, the police have stated that no arrest has been made but the search is ongoing for the suspect.
