– taxi driver and wife in custody
POLICE, acting on intelligence on Tuesday conducted a raid at #78 Village, Springlands, Corentyne and seized three firearms and a quantity of ammunition.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that the operation was led by a senior rank in the division at around 13:13 hrs, and recovered one 12-gauge shotgun that was wrapped in a taped black plastic; one 9mm Powerline air gun with gas and pellets; one 9mm Polymer pistol; one magazine containing four live rounds; and an SA Outdoor Gear bow-and- arrow from the house.
The items were found in a house occupied by a 27-year-old taxi driver, his wife and five-year-old daughter who all lived on the upper flat of a two-storey premises.
The lower flat was occupied by his wife’s grandparents, aged 76 and 72, who are said to be the owners of the property.
Police had initially detained all four adults for questioning, as well as a friend of the taxi driver who was present during the search, but the pensioners were released, while the taxi driver, his wife and friend remain in custody.
Following the discovery, ranks descended on another property owned by the taxi driver, at around 15:00hrs, in #76 Village, also on the Corentyne, and found a pistol- cleaning kit and two holsters.
Up until press time, the three adults were still in custody assisting police with their investigations. Despite the COVID-19 protocols in place, ‘B’ Division police have been on the ball, making arrests and seizing illegal weapons and drugs. Below are the items seized by the police.
