NEUROLOGIST, Dr Walter Ramsahoye, died Thursday afternoon at his residence on Church Street, Georgetown.
The 78-year-old passed away at around 13:15 hours, a relative confirmed.
Ramsahoye was born on March 30, 1942 in Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara. He earned his bachelor’s degree in natural science from Cambridge University, England, 1964; a bachelor’s degree in medicine, BChir, Cambridge University, England, 1967 and a master’s degree, Cambridge University, England, 1968.
He was also a member of the Royal College of Physicians, London in 1970. Dr Ramsahoye was also President of the Guyana Cycling Association, 1977-1982, in addition to being a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, Royal College Physicians.
Dr Ramsahoye also served in positions such as a member of the Guyana Medical Association (vice-president 1987-1989 and president 1989-1992); Sports Medicine Association (chairman steering committee 1989-1992); Cabinet Sub-Committee on Health; American College Physicians; Georgetown Cricket Club; and Georgetown Club/Guyana.
Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony said the medical fraternity is shocked at the passing of Dr. Ramsahoye.
