-As Essequibo COVID-19 cases increase to 9

AS the COVID-19 cases increase in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region, businessman Rupan Ramotar, popularly known as Fowl Cock, on Friday, presented a cheque in the sum of one million Guyana dollars to the Regional Health Emergency Committee, in an effort to help in the fight of the virus. The region currently has nine active cases which include a mother and her two children and a healthcare provider.

The cheque was presented in the presence of Region Two Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt; Regional Vice Chairman, Nandranie Coonjah; Regional Health Officer, AFarah Khan; and Programme head managers of the Region Two Administration.

At the handing-over ceremony, Regional Chairman, Devanand Ramdatt, said that he was happy to have learned about the timely donation. He said that the region lacked enough resources to fight the pandemic but [he] admired the commitment of the healthcare providers. He noted that the new Government, the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C), had already acquired a number of medical supplies.

Rupan Ramotar said he was happy to make the donation on behalf of his companies, Rooster water coconut water and Rupan Ramotar Investment.

He said that COVID-19 was everyone’s concern and as such people needed to take necessary precautions into consideration. He encouraged persons to continue to wear their masks and practise social distancing.
