A 23-YEAR-OLD Canadian citizen is missing and feared kidnapped sometime between 19:00 hrs on Sunday and 05:00 hrs on Monday.
Nicholas Jaipaul of Canada and of Lot 42 Section ‘A’ Number 69 Village,
East Berbice, Corentyne, was in Guyana by his grandfather on vacation and, because of the travel restrictions due to COVID-19, he was unable to return to Canada.
Jaipaul was last seen alive at home on his verandah on Sunday evening, at around 19:00hrs by his 86-year-old grandfather, as the latter was about to retire to bed.
On Monday morning, at around 05:00 hrs, Jaipaul’s grandfather, Ramkissoon
Jaipaul, received a call on the landline phone saying that Nicholas was kidnapped and the kidnapper demanded money for his release.
Relatives related to Guyana Chronicle that the elderly man became flustered upon hearing the news and could not recall the rest of the demands by the alleged kidnapper.
B Division Commander, Calvin Brutus, has confirmed to this publication that detectives were still out in the fields investigating the matter.
He, however, cautioned that, due to lack of details, the matter was being treated as a ‘missing person report’ until more details become available. That being said, the commander assured that every lead was being pursued to locate and return the missing man to his relatives.
