A three-bedroom partially wooden and concrete house was reduced to ashes late Sunday night at Second Alley, Wismar, Linden.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that at around 22:30hrs, the two-storey house, which was occupied by a woman and her son – Jenel Smith and Kelvin Smith, was allegedly set on fire by Kelvin who is believed to be mentally ill.
According to an eye witness, Kelvin experienced a mental breakdown earlier in the day.
“I was alerted by my brother that there was a fire at the neighbour’s house and when I got outside and saw the blaze we tried contacting the fire service. When they arrived the house was mostly consumed by the fire,” a neighbour told this newspaper.
Though the fire fighters were unable to save house from being completely destroyed, they managed to contain the blaze. No one was hurt during the fire.
Kelvin, however, was apprehended by the police.
