
THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) celebrated its 181-year Anniversary on July 1, 2020, observing its mission statement “to serve all citizens and communities of Guyana in a professional, pro-active and accountable manner. To achieve this we will work in partnership with communities, public agencies and private bodies to enhance and support an environment where all people are preventing crime and building a safer and secure Guyana”
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leslie James DSS DSM, sends greetings to all Officers, Inspectors and Other Ranks of the Guyana Police Force on the occasion of the Force’s 181st Anniversary; the Top Cop also wishes them the best of health and prays that the Force continues to progress in the future.

The Guyana Police Force is currently undergoing a modernization and reform process in keeping with its strategic plan 2018-2021 under the citizen security programme to aid in fulfilling the objectives of the Force outlined in Section 3(2) of the Police Act, Chapter 16:01 for the preservation of law and order; the preservation of peace; the repression of internal disturbances; the protection of property; the apprehension of offenders; the due enforcement of all laws and regulations with which it is directly charged; perform Military duties within Guyana as may be required of it by or under the authority of the Minister; and the prevention and detection of crime.
The GPF stated that although it cannot host its usual anniversary celebrations with its officers and ranks it “wants to thank the almighty for bringing us this far and ask him to shower his blessings upon the ranks and let us continue to work hard and serve the nation to the best of our ability.”
