…in support of national COVID-19 response
AS countries around the world continue their efforts to combat the novel strain of the coronavirus, many have turned to the use of masks to protect them from droplet transmission.
A press release from Tullow Guyana said the oil company has partnered with Caribbean Surgery Incorporated (CSI) with the aim of addressing this need together.
The two entities are sponsoring the procurement of 10,000 cloth masks for free distribution at central hubs of Georgetown.

“In response to the national, regional and international demand for masks, Tullow and CSI have commissioned local manufacturers to produce masks. These masks are reusable and come in various sizes for both children and adults. The COVID-19 response strategy ‘Mask UP’ project is in alignment with the public health advisory as one of the mandatory requirements that the general public wear masks when outside their homes.” the press release said.
Accordingly, Mr. Joachim Vogt, Tullow Country Manager, said, “Tullow has linked arms with stakeholders to help fight and reduce the spread of COVID-19. We recognise that in the face of [a very large problem, it is important even to take small steps in the right direction. No effort is too small at this juncture.”
Tullow Guyana said it has aggregated another $2 Million to this effort by sponsoring 10,000 masks. It noted that thus far the total value of aid supplied by Tullow Guyana to the national COVID-19 response is $4 Million.
According to the release, CSI will be coordinating and leading the distribution in bus parks, market places and communities, making the cloth masks accessible city-wide for free to the public.
