A 49-year-old coconut vendor died on Sunday after falling from a coconut tree at Friendship, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Albert Moffatt, called ‘Biggie’ of Vigilance Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that around 08:00hrs on Sunday, Moffatt went around Friendship picking coconuts, and that it was not long after he began climbing a tree, which is about 20 feet tall, that he fell.

Persons in the area said they heard a crashing sound coming from the direction where Moffatt was picking coconuts, and by the time they ventured to see what was going on, he was lying motionless on the ground.

The police were summoned, and it was they who took Moffatt to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), but by then he had already died.

Statements were taken by the Police, and an investigation is ongoing.
