GECOM Chair, Retired Justice Claudette Singh

In a release issued by the electoral body on Thursday afternoon, Justice Singh said that she was “perturbed” by articles published on several new sites as well as the Kaieteur News in which Gunraj asserted that the chair does not think that it is GECOM’s role to probe claims of anomalies arising out of the ongoing recount of the votes cast at the March 2 elections.

Justice Singh, in response to Gunraj’s claims, said that no decision was taken by the commission regarding the claims mentioned by Gunraj.

She said that while she continues to monitor claims made in the ongoing recount process,”he who asserts must prove.”

In this regard , she said that when there are considerable deliberations and decisions at the commission in relation to claims of anomalies, the outcome will be official communicated to the political parties and other stakeholders, particularly the media.

Later on Thursday, Gunraj, after acknowledging that he erred, issued an apology to Justice Singh.
