Dear Editor,
EXPATRIATES who were unable to return to their respective countries when the curfew/lockdown had commenced, are being assisted by their respective governments to return to their destinations. The American, British, Canadian and now the Trinidad Governments have been assisting their nationals to return home via chartered flights.

It is now 45 days (May 2) since the lockdown became effective (March 18) as it relates to Guyana. My understanding is that there are Guyanese who are stranded in Trinidad, Barbados, Antigua and St. Lucia. It is certainly not an easy task for our Guyanese compatriots to be going through this prolonged ordeal. There is the likelihood that they are heavily stress

sed out, some may have lost their employment, and they are in financial (deficit) problems due to this extended stay overseas.

Trinidad recently brought home 70 of their nationals from Suriname. Guyana’s authorities should now be addressing this issue. Hence, Mr/Ms. Editor, those in authority such as His Excellency President Granger, the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Covid-19 Task Force, the Director of Civil Aviation Authority, etc. should now have in place, arrangements to bring our fellow Guyanese home at the earliest opportunity. Financial and other arrangements such as being quarantined for a period of 14 days, among others, will need to be decided on.

That having been said, it is expected that positive action is required to be taken early. We must continue to display that we are a caring nation and follow what Trinidad did for its 70 nationals.
