New Amsterdam businesses were ordered closed

NEW Amsterdam Mayor, Ms Winifred Haywood. has taken ‘the bull by its horns’ in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19), by closing down the main businesses thoroughfare, and, partnering with the Regional Environmental Health Department to have Pitt Street fumigated.

On March 31, Guyana recorded its second death from the COVID-19 disease, while 12 persons included one from Region 6, has been tested positive. A third COVID-19 death was announced on Wednesday April 1, 2020.

Since the initial announcement of an imported case of the global pandemic locally, the New Amsterdam Municipality has implemented curfew hours for residents. Essential businesses have been allowed to operate until 18:00, while non essentials such as bars, and beauty parlours have been asked to remain closed, until further notice.
The residents are in full cooperation with the municipality.
