THE Protected Areas and National Parks Commissions have made a decision to close the parks across Guyana for the Easter Weekend,in light of the presence of COVID-19 here.
The commissions explained that it will continue to work according to the guidelines of the National Task Force on COVID -19 and the instructions of the Public Service Department to fight the deadly virus.
In order to protect and safeguard the staff of the commissions and the general public, decisions were taken to close all parks under their control from April 9, 2020 to April 14, 2020. These include the Botanical Gardens, Joe Vieira Park and the National Park. The zoo would remain closed to the public until further notice.
Almond Beach, Shell Beach Protected Area remains closed to visitors until further notice.
All of the commissions’ offices will be temporarily closed to public business with immediate effect until April 30, 2020. Additionally, events reservations for the use of any of the parks will not be accepted until after April 30, 2020.
The PAC and NPC call on all of Guyanese to adhere to the necessary precautions and advice as they seek to end the spread of COVID-19.
