Authorities mull suspension of local flights from border locations

…propose plans for local aircraft to carry quarter passenger capacity

THE suspension of domestic flights from border locations and a recommendation for local aircraft to take only a quarter of the capacity of each aircraft, are among proposals made to the National COVID-19 task force by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.

According to the proposals from the ministry, the transportation of passengers to other locations besides border aerodromes, will be allowed at 25% of the aircraft passenger capacity. Adequate spacing of passengers must be adopted, the ministry said.

It was proposed that the transportation of cargo and medical supplies will be facilitated during daylight operation; in addition, all cargo must be fully sanitised before loading onto the aircraft.

The MOPI also noted that medivac flights will be allowed with only the patient, one health official and one family member.

Importantly, the ministry has proposed that all aircraft crew be properly protected with masks and gloves for all flights.

On the wider scale, the MoPI said that the Cheddi Jagan International Airport corporation and the Eugene F Correia International Airports will remain closed until further notice.
All conditions listed in the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority’s previous directive remains in effect, the MoPI said.
