IN response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced the waiver of value-added tax on medical supplies to combat the pandemic.
GRA stated, in a release, that the Government of Guyana has zero-rated the VAT on all medical supplies for the testing, prevention and treatment of COVID-19 for the period 26th March, 2020 to June 30, 2020.
The list includes test kits, protective garment, thermometers, disinfectants, patient-monitoring devices, medical ventilators, rubbing alcohol, Vitamin C tablets and soaps.
Businesses are asked to immediately cease charging VAT for these supplies. As a result of these items being zero-rated, input VAT previously paid will be fully recoverable. As such, there should be an immediate reduction in the prices for these items by 14%.
Consumers are asked to be vigilant and ensure that they are no longer being charged VAT for these items.
