A 31-year-old taxi driver of East La Penitence was, on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Nicholas Chung appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge, when it was read to him.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on Friday, February 28, 2020, at Lamaha Street, Georgetown, Chung, armed with a dangerous weapon, robbed Neil Dutchin of $500,000 cash, a cellular phone valued at $20,000 and a knife valued at $500.
According to reports, on the day in question, February 28, 2020, Dutchin and his friends were at Blue Martini Night Club at Lamaha Street, where Chung and Dutchin had a misunderstanding. The accused, Chung, left and returned with two accomplices, one of whom was armed with a handgun. Dutchin was shot to the abdomen and his right leg, The accused and his accomplices proceeded to rob Dutchin of his property and made good their escape. The incident was ‘captured’ on the CCTV camera. An investigation was launched and the accused was arrested.
The prosecutor objected to bail based on the grounds that Dutchin was still hospitalized and that Chung was charged for a similar offence.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded Chung to prison until March 25, 2020.
