Phagwah greetings from Haji Dr Roshan Khan

DRENCHED in the vibrant colours of Phagwah, everybody comes to resemble each other. And, this is one of the beautiful aspects of this auspicious occasion, whereby all ethnicities, religious backgrounds and differences are cast aside and everyone is treated at par.
We, the Guyana Islamic Forum for Education, Peace and Religious Solidarity, in association with the Electric Mosque’s Presentation of the Teachings of Islam and the Universal Peace Federation — Guyana, take this opportunity to extend Phagwah greetings to the nation of Guyana, our politicians and our Hindu brothers and sisters.

Phagwah is meant to celebrate the pure happiness and joy of the victory of good over evil. Inspired by the values of this festival, we pray that the political tensions that have engulfed our nation dissolve in the coloured waters of this Holy season. We urge our fellow brothers and sisters not to be disheartened by these unfortunate political events that have plagued this beautiful festival, but to celebrate the new season with the same fervour, playfulness, happiness, love and harmony.

While most people will take to the streets to play Phagwah, we wish to advise everyone to be vigilant and stick with your group during the celebrations, especially when in large crowds. May the joy and love of this auspicious occasion rekindle our hope that more prosperous days lie ahead. And, that we can all overcome our differences and coexist peacefully as “One Human Family under God.”

Regards
Haji Dr. Roshan Khan
