– wins 13 districts out of 14 with 18,752 votes

SUPPORTERS of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) in Region Two have started to celebrate the party’s victory in the region with countless bottom house parties. Celebrations started Tuesday evening after results were declared by Anna Regina Returning Officer Roxanne Smith.

In her declaration, she mentioned that 39,979 persons were eligible to vote at 135 polling stations. A total of 26,492 valid votes were cast which represent a 70 per cent turnout in the region. Singling out the results, Smith said the PPP/C gained 18,752 votes while APNU/AFC received 7,293 votes. The other parties CG got 217 while the LJP obtained 135 and the URP 95.

Smith said the process was smooth and there were no major hiccups at the polling stations.  Meanwhile, detailed results regionally revealed that the PPP/C won 13 of the districts, which included communities such Jacklow, Dredge Creek, Hackney, Manawarin, Phoenix Park to Rivermouth, Trybest-Somerset and Berks, Evergreen-Paradise, Walton Hall, Limam Henrietta, Anna Regina, Henrietta Housing Scheme, Cotton Field, Lima Sands, Bush Lot, Three Friends, Mainstay Mission, Tapakuma Mission, Aberdeen, Zorg En Vlygt, Capoey Mission, Annandale, Johanna Ceclia, Maria’s Lodge, Riverstown, Pomona Makeshift, Mashabo and Aurora Supenaam, Bethany Mission and Supenaam Creek.

A summary of the regional elections

The A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) won the Martindale District which included villages such as Kitty and Akawini.

A total of 11 political parties contested Monday’s elections with approximately 600,000 electors on the Official List of Electors (OLE) qualified to cast their ballots. Polls throughout the country closed at 18:00hrs.
