– more than a month after she was set on fire

FORTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD Sattie Loaknauth of Friendship, Wakenaam, Region Three succumbed to her injuries more than a month after she was set on fire by her husband, who subsequently committed suicide.

Loaknauth was severely burnt on Saturday, January, 18, 2020 after her husband Rai Rabindranauth Harinarine set her alight during a heated argument. Harrinarine was subsequently discovered dead on Sunday, January 19, 2020 in Friendship Backdam. He reportedly committed suicide.

Moments after the incident, Loaknauth was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where she was treated for third-degree burns. On Friday, February 21, 2020 she unfortunately succumbed.

It is unclear what may have caused the argument between couple.
It is alleged that Harinarine lit his reputed wife after dousing her with gasoline. After committing the act, he then fled the scene. A report was made to the San Souci Police Station. Ranks then combed the area and discovered him hanging from a tree.

The couple was in a common-in-law relationship and the woman had three children from her previous marriage.
