…Former First Lady, Varshnie Singh among awardees

AS Guyana celebrates its 50 Republic Anniversary, Former First Lady, Varshnie Singh, is among 66 persons who have been named as recipients of national awards.

According to the Ministry of the Presidency, Singh, the ex-wife of former President, Bharrat Jagdeo, will be awarded the Golden Arrowhead of Achievement. Singh is the founder of the non-profit organisation, Kids First Fund, and over the years she has been providing humanitarian services to assist persons with various medical conditions.
Heading the list of awardees this year is Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, who was recently conferred with the Order of Roraima during a recent visit to these shores.

Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh; Gynecologist & Obstetrician, Dr. Neville Gobin; Justice William Ramlall; Former Assistant Police Commissioner, Paul Slowe, and Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Godfrey Statia, The Right Reverend Charles Alexander Davidson; Dr. Abraham Agustus Clemwood Fung-A-Fat’ International singer; Edmond Montague Grant; Chancellor of the University of Guyana Professor John Edward Greene; Dr. Cecil Edward Harricharran; 7. Dr. Fawcett Anthony Jeffrey; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Charlene Alexis Phoenix; Claude Augustus Saul; Dr Dagleish Joseph and Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Michael Orrin David Somersall are among those who will receive the Cacique Crown of Honour.

In addition to the Former First Lady, Director of the Government Analyst Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD), Marlan Cole; Mark Anthony Archer; Mavis Anita Benn; Charles Mitroy Corbin; Reverend Roshanna Gillis; Catherina Penda Guyan; Sheran Roxanna Harper; Troy Henry; Loris Emille Heywood; Ranald Andrew Jacobs; former President of the Guyana Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, Pastor Richard Avert James; Edward Jameson; Zaida Joaquin; Veteran Trade Unionist, Lincoln Brandon Lewis;   Frederick McWilfred; Cita Indranie Pilgrim; Cheryl Sampson; Olive Beverly Sampson;
Clinton Murphy Williams and Apostle Jason Clifton Yorrick are listed to receive the Golden Arrowhead of Achievement.

Meanwhile, for the Medal of Service the list includes: Social Activist, Mark Benschop; Artist and Cultural Director, Claire Ann Goring, veteran broadcaster, Phylis Erica Jackson, Wesley Adrian Benjamin; Paulette Patricia Bollers; Terrence Glenberth Boston; Donna Bowen; Lucille Elaine Cadogan; Beverly Clenkien; Jenny Benn-Daly; Ann Pamela Forde; Gregory Douglas Fraser; Virgil Harding; Glenyss Barbara James; Jainarine Maraj; Leon Randolph Mc Donald; Doreen Evelyn Blackman Ng-A-Qui; Kissoon Dyal Persaud; Premnauth Prashad; Urica Yernesi Primus; Deserdeen Roberts; Kaylan Persaud Sharma and Beverly Ann Somerset.

Also to receive awards- the Military Ser vice Medal are: Colonel Raul Jerrick and Lieutenant Colonel Denzil Walter Carmichael.

For the Disciplined Services Star the recipient is: Chief Fire Officer Marlon Anthony Gentle. For the Disciplined Services Medal the recipients are: Assistant Commissioner of Police Kevin Adonis; Assistant Commissioner of Police Edgar Mortimer Thomas and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jacqueline Bonita Greene.
