A 33-year-old Water Front, Port Kaituma businesswoman was, on Thursday, February 20, 2020, released on $70,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for cocaine trafficking.
Naudia Hossain, denied the charge which alleged that, on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Water Front, Port Kaituma, she had 3.2 grams of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The attorney of the defendant requested that Hossain be granted reasonable bail. The attorney told the court that the accused had never been charged nor was ever convicted of any offence.
The request for leniency in bail was based on the fact that the alleged narcotic was not found in the home nor in the yard of the defendant, but outside of Hossain’s fence.
However, the police prosecutor objected to bail being granted to Hossain. The police prosecutor provided the court with information stating that, on the day in question, the defendant, Hossain, was seen by police ranks throwing a bottle containing the narcotic through her window. It was also mentioned that Hossain was 4 feet in distance away from the bottle.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted Hossain $70,000 bail with the condition that she reports to Port Kaituma Police Station at 9:00hour until the end of trial. The matter was adjourned until May 7.
