THE transfer of medical supplies from the Materials Management Unit of the Ministry of Public Health, Georgetown, has now been made easier as the Health Service Programme in Region Two recently received a refrigerated truck.

The truck was handed over on Tuesday evening by Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran. According to Jaikarran, the refrigeration part of the truck will be used to keep the medical supplies that are susceptible to heat in a safer environment. He said such a truck was needed in the region in an effort to properly store medicine when transported it to the region.

Accepting the truck was Regional Health Officer, Dr. Afarah Khan, who thanked the Region Two administration for making a wise purchase.

She said the refrigerated truck will transfer drugs and medical supplies from the Georgetown Public Hospital to the Suddie and Oscar Joseph District Hospital at Charity and health centres on the Essequibo Coast.

Khan said there has been an improvement of health services within the region over the past year and thanked the government for the many investments. Many persons, especially those living in the riverine areas, now have access to quality healthcare services.

Attending the handing over ceremony was People’s National Congress Regional Chairman, Prince Holder, and Social Cohesion Officer, Audrey Garraway.
