A 42-year old miner is nursing injuries about the body after being burnt while rescuing three children from a burning building at Mahdia in the Potaro-Siparuni region on Wednesday night.

Police say that around 19:45hrs on Wednesday, a double-apartment, flat building at Danjou Hill, Mahdia was gutted by fire of unknown origin.

One of the apartments was reportedly occupied by two miners, Stanley Lindie, 58, and Seon Garraway, 42, while the other was occupied by Lakeshia Rigby, 31, and her partner, Eion Ritchie, also 31, and their four children, aged between three and 10.
Reports are that the children were left home alone by their parents, and while they were watching TV, the building caught afire.

Garraway was the one who rescued the children from the burning building, and in the process sustained burns about the body, mainly his belly, hands and thighs. He was taken to the Mahdia District Hospital for treatment and his condition has since been listed as stable.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
