THE Esplanade Park green space initiative project at New Amsterdam is taking shape.
The project falls under the Ministry of Natural Resources’ (MNR) Green Spaces Initiative and according to the ministry, the park has been benefiting from the contributions of the Ministry since 2018.The MNR said it is pleased to be able to continue works towards its beautification.

More recently, the MNR has dealt with the redevelopment of the children’s corner, landscaping, planting of fruit trees, erection of a washroom facility, and extension of fencing. In the coming weeks, chairs and additional garbage receptacles will be placed, the fence will be completed, and a signboard will be erected.

The Ministry, through the Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, in 2018, handed over garbage receptacles, playpark equipment and trees, and further commit $3M towards the park’s restoration.

Ever since, the MNR has continued to place its efforts and lend assistance to the Mayor and Town Council who hold overall responsibility of the park.

It was noted that, to date, the MNR has supported over fifteen communities through the Green Spaces Initiative. “Support has been given through the provision of bins, streetlights, seedlings and fruit trees, and garden and cleaning tools, promoting the overall green agenda of the APNU+AFC Government. One significant achievement in this regard is the restoration of the Cashew Grove Park in Lethem. This park has received significant contributions from the MNR and has been officially opened for public use,” the MNR said.
The MNR said it continues to promote the responsible use of green spaces across the country, and as such will continue making significant contributions towards maintenance and development, ensuring all Guyanese benefit.
