‘Kady Kish’ eyeing Soca Monarch 2020 title

CARIB Soca Monarch plays a major part in our Mashramani celebration year after year. This is the competition of competitions, where Guyanese artistes are challenged to battle for the ultimate title of Soca King or Queen.

This competition has also created the opportunity for our local artistes to make a name for themselves. We have had local stars like Michelle ‘Big Red’ King, Adrian Dutchin, ‘Jumo’ Primo, Brandon Harding, Stephen Ramphal and many others who made a career out of the Soca Monarchy.

This year, it is already looking to be a heated battle between these local big- names. But amongst them all, ready to take on the sharks is young Kishana Stewart, who goes by the alias ‘Kady Kish’.

This 22-year-old Soca sensation has entered the competition for the very first time, with a groovy rendition called, ‘Soca, my religion’.

Kady Kish

Kady told ‘The Buzz’ that the Soca Monarchy has always been a stepping stone for most Guyanese, and “I was always spectating as a child. However, now that the Ministry of Culture is even promoting the newcomers and their songs so vigorously to not only increase knowledge of the artiste but to increase crowd participation during preformances, I just had to find myself into the competition with the hopes that my fellow Guyanese will know more about Kady Kish.”

Explaining the inspiration behind her song, she said, “The lyrics speak for itself. It is the diary of my feelings for Soca. Also, this festive time on the Guyanese calendar always brings citizens of all cultural backgrounds together in a most energetic and invigorating way. Although the competition is challenging, I trust that my hard work and appeal to the crowd is enough to put myself on the map for the Soca Monarch title 2020.”

As a first-timer going up against giant names in the industry, Kady says she believes that she can win the hearts of people. Even if she doesn’t win, she hopes that her fan-base will increase, and more doors of opportunity will open as she continues to pursue her singing career.

“My quirky and jovial personality is displayed on stage, and even in my lyrics, so if the audience listens, they can feel very close to me through my songs. I rally to win, but this competition alone helps me to be known by my Guyanese people. And in my heart, I truly want my fan-base to stem from the people closest to my heart,” Kady told ‘The Buzz’.

In addition to this competition, Kady is a vocalist in the Heatwave Band. Since her induction into Heatwave, the band has had its first release, “De stage”, in which Kady has a lead part. She performed on several shows throughout 2019, especially during the ‘Mash’ season. Her song, ‘Soca Baby’ has also been buzzing since its release a few months ago.

Young Kady is hoping that the Guyanese public can become acquainted with her song, as it speaks a lot to our culture and diversity.

Below are the lyrics:

Intro:

Warm up
We charge up
Soca my religion
Come mek we warm up
Charge up my religion

Ah feeling myself again in the band
Masquerades flouncing everywhere
Every year, I’ll be there
Whether rain or sun it won’t change my mind
I going to push it back
Get ready for the bacchanal
And when you see me danging
Don’t you even tell
Give me Soca ‘cause I’m not sober,
It’s my religion, I behaving bad

 Chorus:
So everybody get wild
Soak somebody with water
Spray somebody with paint
Take off your clothes
Create a bacchanal

Whine up… Look how they whining up
Wuk up… Look how they whining up
Wave up… Look how they waving up
Create a bacchanal

 Verse#2
Something special when you feel… Ah know you feel it too
The music raising up your pores
I love to see my people jump in love
And unity, It fills my soul
Carry on this bacchanal
Get ready to jump, ready to wave ready
GT posse, misbehave
One love, yes one culture
Grab yo flag, let’s celebrate together
I going to push it back
Get ready for the bacchanal
And when you see me danging
Don’t u even tell
give me Soca, ‘cause I’m not sober
It’s my religion, I behaving bad

 Chorus:
So everybody get wild
Soak somebody with water
Spray somebody with paint
Take off your clothes
Create a bacchanal

Whine up… Look how they whining up
Wuk up… Look how they whining up
Wave up… Look how they waving up
Create a bacchanal ×4
