Four men were detained by the Customs Anti-narcotics Unit(CANU) on Thursday afternoon after a quantity of narcotics was found on a truck laden with fertiliser on Mandela Avenue in the city.

According to a release from CANU, the truck was intercepted after its occupants were seen collecting two ‘salt bags’ which were later packed onto the truck which was destined for Berbice. Sources noted that the drugs may have been destined for Suriname.

CANU said it found 40 parcels which contained 22 kilograms of suspected marijuana and 2 parcels contained 2.70 kilograms of suspected cocaine.

The occupants of the truck remain in custody and they are likely to to be placed before the courts in the coming days.
