THE Preliminary Inquiry, into the case of Radha Sukwah, who was charged for unlawfully killing her elderly lover, is adjourned until January 24, 2020.

The PI is presided over by Magistrate Ester Sam at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, while the case is being prosecuted by Attorney-at-Law, Bernard DaSliva. Sukwah is represented by attorney-at-law Motie Singh.

Sukwah was charged for unlawfully killing 73-year-old Deonarine, aka ‘Russian’, on August

3, 2018, at Grant Lower Pomeroon River. She is currently out on $400,000 bail for the manslaughter charge.

According to reports, on August 3, 2018, at around 20:00hours, Sukwah and Deonarine had a heated argument after he accused her of being unfaithful to him.
Sukwah had told the police that the deceased pulled a knife on her as they scuffled. She claimed that the deceased had a gun and during the scuffle, she pulled the trigger and shot the elderly man to the left of his abdomen. The elderly man died on his way to the Oscar Joseph Hospital at Charity.

However, when Sukwah was initially questioned by investigators, the woman told the police that she and Deonarine were attacked by a masked man who was armed with a gun and a knife.

She stated, at the time, that she held on to both weapons during the ordeal and later she heard a gunshot.

The investigators did not believe her story, since she kept giving different versions of the incident while being questioned.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Deonarine died as a result of shock and hemorrhage due to the gunshot injury he sustained.
