– three others injured in another accident
THREE days after arriving into the country to usher in the New Year with his family, Hemraj Bhojram, 24, lost his life after he crashed into a billboard around 22:00hrs on Wednesday.
Bhojram of Number 67 Village, East Berbice, Corentyne was riding a motorcycle bearing a trade plate, at a fast rate of speed on the Number 69 Village Public Road when he reportedly lost control while negotiating a turn and crashed into a wooden signboard on the northern side of the road.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, the motorcycle was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road and while in the process of negotiating a left turn, the driver lost control and collided with a wooden and metal sign board located on the northern grass parapet.
Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, the young man’s sister, Trisha Toolsie, said her brother returned from Trinidad on December 30 to spend time with his family for the New Year.
Amid tears, she said her brother was a very kind and joyful person who loved and cared for his siblings and parents, and his death came as a shock to them. His mother was too emotional to speak with the media.
The motorcycle was only bought two weeks ago. Bhojram was on his first
ride with the motorcycle for the day when the incident occurred. Reports
are the young man rode the motorcycle no more than four times
since it was bought. At the time of his demise, he was said to be returning home from a village away, having left home half hour prior.
Meanwhile, Regional Commander, Calvin Brutus, is appealing to road users to use the road with care.

“Road users we need to pay attention to the rules of the road. There is an established speed limit in different zones and this was done based on analysis done by engineers who had the speed limits fixed to that rate because of the general circumstances surrounding the quality of the road, the housing and communities close to the road, the width and all of those things went into that,” Brutus said.
In a separate incident, at around 03:30hrs on New Year’s Day, a driver, who was speeding, slammed into a utility pole on the Crabwood Creek Public Road.
The driver and the two occupants of the vehicle escaped without life-threatening injuries.
According to reports, Seeram Ramdatt, 22, the driver of the car, which bore registration PNN7976, was speeding along the roadway around 03:30hrs on Wednesday morning when the car flipped after crossing the Black Water Bridge.
It then slammed into a Guyana Power and Light pole some 200 feet away. Ramdatt, who was driving the vehicle without the permission of the owner, fled the scene while the two other occupants of the car, Keron Phillips, 32, and Ramnand Kishwar, 45, all of whom are from Crabwood Creek, were picked-up in a semi-conscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Hospital.
Their conditions were listed as stable. The driver was arrested later in the day and subsequently admitted a patient at the said hospital. Police are investigating the incident.
