Fire guts Port Mourant house

A fire of unknown origin swept through a house located at Sheveh Street , Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant,Berbice at approximately 18:15 hrs on Friday.

A lone occupant who was identified as “Sherry”, was not at at home at the time.
Neighbors said she had left about fifteen minutes earlier for Rose Hall Town.The flames lit-up the horizon and could have been seen several village away.

Fire fighters from the Rose Hall Town Station responded to the scene,however, they were forced to leave after the fire tender ran out of water.

The firemen returned to the scene a few minutes later and continued to extinguish the flames while protecting nearby buildings blame so as to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.(Nafeeza Yahya)
