MAGISTRATE Faith McGusty, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, granted a 19-year-old labourer $50,000 bail, on an ammunition possession charge.
Shemroy Williams of Sophia appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied the charge, when it was read to him.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on December 16, 2019, at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, he had one live round of 9mm ammunition, while he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
Attorney-at-law, Adrian Thompson, who represented Williams, told the court that the items were given to his client attached to a band and he thought it was a decoration.
Police prosecutor Seon Blackman objected to bail, based on the wrong address Williams gave to the police, and told the court that, on the day in question, the ammunition was found in Williams’ right side pants pocket.
Magistrate McGusty, after listening to the prosecutor and the lawyer released Williams on $50,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until January 22, 2020.
