Pirates attack fishermen in Waini River

LAW enforcement officers are searching for alleged pirates who robbed a crew of fishermen, on Friday, in the Waini River.

The Waini River is a river in the Barima-Waini region of northern Guyana
Reports indicate that a vessel that goes by the name “Midnight River” was proceeding to Georgetown from Port Kaituma, when the captain encountered the fishing boat and crew drifting in the Waini River.

Upon inquiry from the vessel’s captain, the fishermen related that their crew were held up by armed men who relieved them of their boat engines, cellphones and other articles.
The boat engines were two Yamaha engines, one 60 horsepower and the other 48 horsepower.

The police were eventually contacted and investigations are on-going.
