Bandits rob miner of gold chains, cash

TWO armed bandits robbed a 24-year-old miner at Uitvlugt Bus Shed Street, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Thursday evening.
The victim was identified as Akeem Ford of Bagotville, WCD.

Reports indicate that Ford left his home at about 21:30 hours and went to Uitvlugt to meet a friend to collect 15 pennyweight of raw Gold.
Upon arrival in Uitvlugt, Ford exited a minibus and was walking along the Uitvlugt Bus Shed Street to reach his friend when, from behind, he felt a hand on his neck pulling his two gold chains.

When Ford turned around, the two unidentified men began to rob him and a scuffle ensued.
The victim then heard a loud explosion and he fell to the ground where the two bandits took his two chains from his neck and the cash he had in his possession.

One chain weighed over an ounce with a value of G$200,000, and the other weighed over two ounces with a value of G$290,000, along with $50,000 he had in his pocket.

The bandits made good their escape on foot and Ford was later rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by public-spirited citizens where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the left-upper-chest region.

He was eventually transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further observation.
