CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, sentenced a 28-year-old man to two years’ imprisonment for a series of offences.
Linden Bourne of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the three charges.
Particulars of the first charge stated that, on October 17, 2019, at Princess Street, Georgetown, he had, in his possession, one .38 pistol when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
The second charge stated that, on the same day, and at the same place, he had, in his possession, four 9mm ammunition, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
The last charge stated that, on the same day and at the same place, he had in his possession two .38 ammunition when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
“I found the gun and I decide to keep it, I had no criminal intention and I have never been involved in any criminal activities,” Bourne said.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers told the court that, on the day in question, Bourne and three others were in a motorcar heading west on Princess Street and, at the time, ranks, who were on patrol duty, stopped the vehicle which was being driven by Bourne.
Jeffers said that Bourne immediately exited the vehicle and, at the time, he was holding a pouch. A search was conducted and the ammunition was found in the pouch, while the gun was found under some food boxes on the backseat.
Bourne was told of the allegation and he told the ranks that he found the gun and ammunition in an alleyway in North Ruimveldt. He was arrested and later charged.
Magistrate McLennan, after listening to the information, sentenced Bourne to two years on each of the charges, and ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
