DAYS after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest, Alfie Garraway turned himself over to the police on Wednesday, in the company of his attorney, Siand Dhurjon.
Garraway of Norton Street, Lodge, was wanted by the police in relation to the possession of gun, ammunition and cannabis which were allegedly found at his home during a police raid on October 5, 2019.
Presently, he is at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Headquarters, Eve Leary, assisting the police with their investigation. According to reports, on October 5, 2019, police, acting on information received, went to Garraway’s home to conduct a search. However, he was not home at the time; only his mother, Roseann Garraway, was at home. Some 39 grams of cannabis was found in the home. The mother is currently on $60,000 bail after she was charged for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
During the search, a firearm and ammunition were also found along with a parcel containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Alfie Garraway is among three men who are currently awaiting trial at the High Court for the grenade attack on Kaieteur News, Saffon Street, in 2016. Garraway, Leroy Williams and Janeil Howard are accused of conspiring together with other persons to cause an explosion by way of grenade, likely to endanger lives and cause damage to property, on June 4, 2016, at 24 Saffon Street, Charlestown.
The men are out on bail while awaiting hearing at the High Court. According to reports, on the day in question, a security staffer heard an unusual sound coming from near a Toyota Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) – PRR 8398 – which belongs to Glenn Lall, Publisher of Kaieteur News.
The SUV was parked on the western side of the newspaper’s Lot 24 Saffon Street, Georgetown office. On checking the front of the vehicle, the staffer spotted a grenade lying near one of the front tyres. Video footage from the company’s CCTV cameras showed a grey-coloured vehicle slowing down as it approached Lall’s vehicle. The driver accelerated after the explosive device was thrown.
