GDF conducts aerial search for missing fishermen

THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF), in a joint effort with the Guyana Police Force, conducted an aerial search for the still-to-be-found fishermen who disappeared at sea last week.
The bodies of two of the men have been found. Marvin Tamessar and the Captain Vishnu Seeram both of Miss Pheobe village are still missing and feared dead. The bodies of their other two crew

members Kawal Kissoon, called ‘Ajay,’ 36, of Lot 233 Letter Kenny and Lamar Petrie, 20, of Miss Phoebe village were found on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The four fishermen departed Guyana on Saturday the 5th of October, destined for Suriname, to ply their trade and had scheduled to return on the 19th October. However, their boat, Sara 1, was found abandoned at the Cromarty foreshore on Friday October 11. The engine and catch were also missing.

The bodies of both Petrie and Kissoon were found with their hands tied behind their backs and their feet bound. They were both found in the vicinity of Abary, some 60 kilometers away from where the boat was grounded. The post mortem of the two men is scheduled for today at the Fort
Wellington Hospital.

Meanwhile, the mother of Lamar Petrie, Onicka Simon, is at her wits end as she contemplates how she will be able to finance the funeral for the oldest of her six children. In tears the woman said Lamar was the only one that helped out financially. She explained that Lamar and three of his siblings ages 6, 11 and 12 live with her while her two older daughters 16 and 19 are living elsewhere. “He is the only one that does help out home here, I don’t know who gon help me now. If anybody can help we would really appreciate it cause God knows I can’t afford it.” Simon can be contacted on telephone number 655-4184.
