A Guyanese is among 14 Caribbean migrants who the United States Coast Guard said it detained some 25 miles east of Miami, on September 28, 2019.

The group, which also comprised of six Jamaicans, six Haitians and a suspected Bahamian smuggler, was in a 21-foot cabin cruiser heading westbound towards Southeast Florida, when the US Coastguard spotted them. Upon realising this, the crew of the cabin cruiser changed course and began sail east towards the Bahamas,
The detained migrants and the man accused of trying to smuggle them to the United States were turned over to Customs and Border Patrol authorities, according to 7News in Miami..
Lieutenant Commander Mark Cobb, Chief of Enforcement of the Coast Guard Sector Miami said , “The Coast Guard continues to maintain a focused and coordinated effort with multiple agency assets to interdict any attempt to dangerously and unlawfully immigrate by sea to the United States,” said

“These illegal migrant smuggling ventures are extremely dangerous, especially during the hurricane season, and places families in danger of being lost at sea,” he added.
